Server kits Your server is the half of the embed that holds secrets. The server kit wraps your language’s Lingara library, so it signs in with your OAuth client and mints tokens for your players, checks the webhooks Lingara sends you, and deletes players when they leave. The samples below follow the same steps in each language.
Create a metered client
Create an OAuth client in the console and put it on the metered plan. Give it embed:mint, the scope that mints tokens and deletes players. A client on any other plan is refused that scope. Give it too every scope you want your players’ tokens to carry, because a token can hold only scopes your client holds. embed:mint itself is never handed to a player.
Keep the client’s ID and secret in your server’s environment, never in a game or a page.
Register your web origins
A website widget needs a token bound to the page’s origin. In the console, list every origin your widget runs on in your client’s settings, such as https://www.example.com. You can list at most 10. An origin is a scheme, a host and an optional port, with no path. For development, a loopback origin on a port of your own is allowed too, such as http://localhost:5173. A token is accepted only from the exact origin it was minted for, so a token minted for any other origin is refused by the API. A game needs no origin.
Mint a token
Mint behind your own sign-in: your token route first checks your own session, and only then mints for that player. Rate-limit the route per session. A mint request takes three fields:
player_ref: your own reference for the player, 1 to 128 bytes of UTF-8. Lingara stores only a hash of it.
scopes: at most 5, from those a player’s token can hold: events:read, events:write, lesson_plans:read, lesson_plans:write and embed:play. Leave it out and the token holds every one of them your client holds.
origin: for a website, the page’s origin, which must be one you registered. Leave it out for a game.
The answer holds token, expires_at, expires_in (the same expiry in seconds, for a device whose clock you cannot trust), subject, the token’s scopes, and account_linked, which says whether the player has linked their own Lingara account. subject identifies the player to your client, and every event about them carries it.
Hand the player the token and its expiry exactly as the kit’s handoff writes them, through your own session and never in a URL, and send the answer with Cache-Control: no-store. The player kit asks again when the token nears its expiry; a token is never refreshed.
Route a webhook to its player
Lingara signs every webhook it sends you. Give the kit the raw request body, before any JSON parsing, because the signature covers its bytes. The kit checks the signature and looks up the player the event’s subject names in a table of your own, beside your players, that maps each subject to your player_ref. A player who links an account owns two subjects, so keep the subject column unique and let one player_ref appear twice.
Delivery is at least once: skip an event ID you have already handled. Answer within 10 seconds, and put anything slow on a queue of your own.
Delete a player
From your own account-deletion path, delete the player by their player_ref. Lingara revokes every token the player holds and removes everything it stores for them. Deleting an unknown player succeeds too, so the call is safe to repeat. Deleting your own data stays your job.
A player who brings their own Lingara account
A player with their own Lingara account can link it, so their practice and plans live on that account. No kit wraps this yet; it is two API calls from your server.
Your server runs the authorization-code flow with the same client that mints, using PKCE: the player signs in and agrees in their browser, never inside your game, and your server exchanges the code with its secret. Ask in that consent for embed:play and every scope you mint with, and include events:read, or you hear nothing about the player once they have linked.
Then call linkEmbedPlayer with the delegated token that exchange returned, never your client’s own token. Its answer holds:
status: linked when this call made the link, existing when it was already live;
subject, the account’s subject, which the player’s events carry from now on;
previous_subject, the guest’s subject, which their earlier events keep;
linked_at, when the link was made;
scopes, the most a token for this player can now hold;
carried, the rows this call moved to the account, per table;
kept, the rows it left with the guest, such as a plan still being written.
A link is safe to repeat, and a repeat finishes moving what kept reports. Route events carrying either subject to the same player_ref. Your next mint for the player answers account_linked as true, and you still pay for what the player does.
To end a link, call unlinkEmbedPlayer with your client’s own token. Nothing moves back to the guest. A learner can also end the link themselves, by removing your app in Connected apps.
