AI tutor
The tutor is a conversation you can have about the language you are learning: why an answer was marked wrong, how a grammar pattern works, what the difference between two near-synonyms is, or just practice at holding a short exchange.
The AI tutor is a Plus feature, and every free account starts with a trial that includes it — see Trial & plans.
What it is good at
- Explaining a specific thing. “Why is this the past tense here?” gets a far better answer than “teach me grammar”.
- Answering in context. Open the tutor from a lesson or an exercise and it already knows the material you are asking about.
- Practising. Ask it to stay in the language you are learning, correct your mistakes, and keep sentences short. It will.
Voice
You can speak to the tutor instead of typing: tap the microphone, say your message, and it is transcribed. Replies can be played back as audio, so you can hear pronunciation rather than guess at it. Both work in every language Lingara teaches.
Voice input needs microphone permission. If the microphone button does nothing, that permission was probably declined — grant it to Lingara in your device settings.
Getting good sessions
- One question at a time. Bundled questions get shallower answers.
- Say your level. “Explain this for a beginner” changes the answer a lot.
- Push back. If an explanation does not land, say so and ask for another angle — an example, a comparison, a simpler wording.
- Check anything surprising. The tutor is a language model and can be confidently wrong. For a fact you intend to memorise, a second source is worth the thirty seconds.
Conversations and privacy
Conversations are saved to your account so you can come back to them, and your device keeps the 20 most recent for offline reading. Deleting a conversation in the app removes it from your device; our copy is deleted automatically 180 days after each message, and immediately if you delete your account.
If you would rather your conversations were not used to improve Lingara’s AI, turn off Help improve Lingara in Settings → Privacy & AI. Conversations are still stored so the feature works, but they are excluded from training within 24 hours. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy and on the AI Transparency page.
